In December 2013, DRI signed a contract for professional supervision of deepening the navigable channel of Basin I at the Koper cargo port. The client is the Ministry of Infrastructure and Spatial Planning, Slovenian Maritime Administration.
In September 2013, the Slovenian Maritime Administration commenced the construction of the silt disposal site on the location of Bonifika in Ankaran. It will serve as the disposal site for the silt from deepening the harbour waters up to Basin I to the depth of 15 metres. After the construction of the silt disposal site, dredging operations will begin and about 150.000 m3 of material will be transported through pipelines to the silt disposal site in Bonifika.
The deepened harbour waters will eventually enable access to larger cargo ships to the container terminal the Port of Koper.
