Yesterday, on 10 November 2015, the pilot project of a safe school route designed by considering human factor, was officially opened. DRI also contributed to the implementation of the project with donations.
The project was executed in the area of Trje branch school and kindergarten in the municipality of Žalec. Street furniture and traffic signalisation had been designed and produced in line with the concept of self-explaining roads, taking into account the human factor in the process of planning road arrangements. Signs with with distinctive illustrations, road markings on the pavement and colourful posts create an image of the road and the roadside area, which gives clear information to the driver and warns him about the potential dangers; thus influencing driver's decisions and reactions.
The project is the first of its kind in Slovenia and sets an example of knowledge and best practice transfer from countries with a better developed traffic culture.
