The first comprehensive presentation of the company DRI intended for the students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Architecture of the University of Maribor (UM FGPA) and the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering of the University of Ljubljana (UL FGG) was attended by approximately fifty students from both of these civil engineering faculties, while some teachers from the UM FGPA also attended the meeting.
The meeting began at the Edvard Rusjan Airport in Maribor, where a presentation was held for the students on the possibility of cooperating with DRI and the Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZRMK) – from performing student work and mandatory practical training to receiving scholarships. After the presentation, within which a former scholarship recipient who now manages difficult railway projects also discussed his career path, we toured some construction sites. Under expert guidance, we toured the construction site of the Pesnica viaduct and the Pekel tunnel, which are being constructed within the upgrade of the Maribor–Šentilj railway line. The meeting ended with a relaxed atmosphere.
We are very pleased with the response of the students, as we find that it is extremely important to have early contact with students, who are our future human resources. Immediately after the event, the participants showed their interest in receiving company scholarships – nine scholarships will be granted in the 2021/22 academic year – and in performing student work.
The meeting with students has fully met our expectations, so events that solidify the synergy between the economic and academic spheres will also be organised in the future. For this very reason, we named this event ‘Meetings of the Engineers of the Future’, as we hope for the event to become a traditional one.
