Road infrastructure THIRD DEVELOPMENT AXIS – SOUTH

The third development axis - south is designed as a four-lane expressway with a total length of 48.6 km, divided into two sections.

The first 17.9 km section, which runs from the Ljubljana-Obrežje motorway junction near Novo Mesto to the Maline junction, will include 4 interchanges, 5 viaducts, 3 bridges, 2 cut-and-covers, a 2.3 km long tunnel under the Gorjanci Hills, 14 overpasses, 9 underpasses, 4 pedestrian underpasses, 1 pedestrian overpass, 2 rest areas, and a motorway base unit. The expressway will connect to the existing road network at the Osredek and Maline access points.

The second section with a length of 30.7 km, from the Maline junction to the Metlika international border crossing or the Črnomelj South junction, will have 14 bridges and 1 viaduct, 2 ecoducts, 5 junctions and 1 fork, 2 cut-and-covers, 15 overpasses and 15 underpasses, a footbridge, 2 guarded parking areas for goods vehicles, and 2 rest areas. The expressway will connect to the existing road network at the Metlika North, Semič, and Črnomelj North access points.

IN ADDITION TO A NUMBER OF FACILITIES, THE EXPRESSWAY WILL ALSO INCLUDE A 2 KM TUNNEL THROUGH THE GORJANCI HILLS, THE MOST FAMOUS AND VISITED HILLS IN DOLENJSKA.
